Millers Snooker Club, 29th October 2009
We last saw these guys at Millers last year. Since then they have toured extensively around Europe and continued to build a reputation for being one of the best bands on the circuit. Tighter than ever, confident and relaxed, they were eagerly anticipated by the growing crowd who were not disappointed.
They hit the ground running with some superb slide from Johnny and a Bo Diddley tinged 'Your Love For Me', from their Houngan album, followed by hit after hit of rip roaring numbers from both Houngan and their first album The World Is Tough. Paul sang in his inimitable way with all the emotion and expression we have come to expect from this excellent vocalist, with backing vocals on occasion by Boyd (drums) , Simon (sax) and Dave (bass). Colin and Johnny, both superb guitarists demonstrated their individual styles throughout the set, complemented on a couple of tracks with Colin's harp skills. Simon's sax added a sultry dimension and his crowd walk was applauded enthusiastically. Our all time favourite 'All Over Now' was as moving as ever, and as midnight approached the set was over all too soon. Brilliant own material, cover arrangements with the unique Stumble stamp and class musicianship. What more could you want from a gig?
