Review - Matt Schofield Trio

The Triple Door in Seattle – June 9, 2010

MSbw_1016

The Matt Schofield Trio made there first visit to our fair city last night….and got a rousing reception.

Playing the Triple Door, one of Seattle’s best venues, to a decent audience (for a Wednesday night and Matt’s first trip to Seattle), Matt “schooled” everyone on how to play tasteful guitar with some sass…..(and, there were a couple of Seattle’s finest guitarists in the house to observe – Billy Stapleton of Lil’ Bill & the Blue Notes and Mark Riley, who backed Ian Siegal in ’06). He covered several tunes off his last three CDs and encored with some good old blues standards --- Schofield style for sure.

Giving everyone a good hour and a half performance, Matt and his rhythm section (Jonny Henderson on keys and Kevin Hayes on drums) hung out after the show to sign autographs and sell CDs.

A couple of producers of PNW Blues Festivals were there, clambering to hire Matt for next year’s events (Winthrop R&B Festival and the Mt. Baker Blues Festival). So, it looks like we’ll get another opportunity to enjoy Matt and his music next summer.
