Idle Hands

Greyhound, Beeston – Friday 27/8/10

ihands6

Having done some internet research beforehand, it was evident from their professional website & history of CD releases that Idle Hands were a competent blues unit & could be worth a trip up the road to Beeston’s Greyhound pub to check them out.

So it proved as the Chesterfield based 4 piece knocked out two incredibly tight sets of blues rock covers and original material. IH formed in 1989 and consist of originals Dave Robinson on Guitar and Jamie Burns on bass, with Phil Allen (1994) on vocals & relative newcomer Paul Heydon (2009) on drums.

Set 1 included Manic Depression, Can’t Be Satisfied, My Baby Left Me (played in a raucous boogie-woogie style with harmonica accompaniment) and closed on an amazing version of Voodoo Chile. Set 2 gave us All Along the Watchtower (with a tasty wah wah treatment), Led Zep’s Since I’ve Been Loving You, Hoochie Coochie Man and Been a Long Time. Slotted easily within each set were Idle Hand’s own songs which blended in seamlessly to provide a thorough evening’s worth of professional quality blues rock musicianship.
